can we talk?

This project was assigned to explore the impact we have in the world as designers. I chose a topic close to home and targeted spreading awareness about depression and mental health. Most campaigns to spread awareness about this topic usually use statistics or encourage people to stay positive. As someone who's struggled with her own demons, I generally find those methods unhelpful.


My target audience isn't people who are currently struggling with depression or mental health disorders, but rather the people around them who might be unaware of their situation. I found that I better got people's attention when they were confronted with the serious and dark reality of what it's like to have depression or a mental health disorder. So I gathered quotations and stories about people's experiences and printed them in vinyl and installed them around the city of Boston.
